How I Scaled TaxJar Plus from $2M to $17M ARR

In 2018, TaxJar Plus had no formal customer experience infrastructure. No onboarding program. No account management. No proactive strategy. Just a handful of premium customers and massive opportunity.

The Challenge

TaxJar Plus was generating $2M in ARR but had no scalable systems. We needed to build world-class customer experience that could support aggressive growth while maintaining lean operations. Small team, limited budget, high expectations.

The Approach

I focused on three pillars: white-glove onboarding that accelerated time-to-value, data-driven account management using KPIs and health scores, and a tight feedback loop between customers and product/engineering teams.

Built for Scale

Used automation for routine communications while saving white-glove touches for critical moments. Built data dashboards so customers could self-serve. Leveraged automation to optimize workflows. Designed every system with 10x growth in mind. Lean doesn't mean cheap — it means intentional.

The Results

Over 2-3 years, TaxJar Plus grew from $2M to $17M ARR — 8.5x growth. High retention rates through proactive account management. Minimal churn despite rapid growth. Increased LTV through better onboarding and customer enablement.

My superpower is building 0-to-1 programs that scale using AI agent workflows. I design for 10x growth from day one. I build AI-powered tools and agent workflows using Claude that replace core systems, eliminate recurring SaaS costs, and drive operational leverage. I've built full-stack apps in under 4 hours, created AI workflows for entrepreneurs, and developed AI-powered certificate management systems. Board member of Zamp's AI Think Tank, where I build AI strategy frameworks for the organization.

I work best alongside early-stage engineering leaders who care about product details and are excited about AI's potential. My ideal projects involve close collaboration with founders, being embedded with engineering, and having real ownership over product roadmap and GTM strategy.
